Our shop seamstress, Bonnie, made a pair of Closet Core Jenny Overalls (formerly Closet Case) for my daughter, Mairin. The pattern includes two bib options, long overalls, short overalls, plain shorts, and plain pants. It also includes a one-side-zip option and a two-side-zip option. Once you get this pattern to fit, the possibilities are endless!
Although the pattern doesn’t require a stretch woven, Bonnie used our Robert Kaufman Reversible Stretch Railroad Denim in Indigo, which worked great. Bonnie made the overalls in size 8, and they fit Mairin perfectly (I’m jealous!).
Jenny Overall Instructions
The instructions are very thorough. Bonnie followed them exactly and had no problems with construction. In addition to the great written instructions, Heather Lou from Closet Case has photo tutorials for all the tricky bits on her blog, plus a Jenny Overall Fitting Guide.
Jenny Overalls Fit
Mairin and Bonnie both find the Closet Core Jenny Overalls flattering and feminine. The shorts view has a four-inch inseam, so they aren’t too short. The double-zipper option is good for curvy gals – no struggles getting in or out of the overalls at critical moments!
The Jenny Overalls have very little ease: one-inch for the waist, and zero for the hip, so don’t size down! Luckily, Heather includes one-inch seam allowances for the side seams.
Now that I feel good about the fit of my StyleArc Flat Bottom Flo pants, which are only for stretch woven, I’m ready to tackle a non-stretch woven pants pattern. Stay tuned for a pair of Jenny Pants in my size!
