The pressure to get or make everyone in your life the perfect holiday gift is real! As makers, we often hold ourselves to special standards when it comes to gift-giving. Everyone, in our eyes, deserves a custom quilt, bag, garment – you name it!
However, the holiday season should also be enjoyable. You don’t need to push yourself to the limit! So – to help keep you from crying over your sewing machine at midnight on Christmas Eve – we’ve put together a list of fun kits that come together quickly. These kits also make great gifts in and of themselves – simple enough for an aspiring sewist yet still satisfying for an old pro.
1. Montana Mitten Kit

An oldie, but a goodie, our Montana Mitten Kits are a favorite every year, and this holiday season we have 4 new fabric combinations to choose from!
Our kits contain printed pattern pieces in 3 sizes (S, M, L), detailed instructions, and all the fabric and thread you’ll need to make a pair of high-quality, lined mittens. Even better, we have a detailed Mitten YouTube Tutorial that will walk you through the entire mitten-making process.

2. Field Bag Kit
Grainline Studio’s Field Bag is the perfect gift for the on-the-go knitter/crocheter in your life, and our Field Bag Kit includes everything you need to make one, pattern and all.
Apprehensive about the making process? Kate walks you through the whole thing in her YouTube tutorial! You can also check out her blog post where she shares expert tips.

3. Beeswax Food Wrap Kit
This kit is one of my personal favorites. I made myself a set of Reusable Food Wraps last winter, and I bring my sandwiches to work in them every day!
They cling perfectly around bowls, jars, snacks, and sandwiches. Plus, they’re easy to clean–I rinse mine with dish soap–and easy to re-wax with another coat of the provided materials.
This kit is sold in two variations:
- TCS Food Wrap Ingredients Only – includes pine resin, beeswax, jojoba oil, paintbrush, and parchment paper.
- TCS Food Wrap Materials + 1/2 yrd YOUR Choice of Quilting Cotton! – includes all the aforementioned ingredients & tools plus fabric!
Both kit variations also provide a handy tip sheet with directions to the Mountain Rose Herb’s Beeswax Wraps Recipe. We also have a blog post available which includes some tips and tricks Maisie learned while making her own food wraps.

4. Grocery Tote Kit

Our Grocery Tote Kit is practical, customizable, and awesomely easy to make. (If you’re looking for something quick, this is the project for you!)
Simply choose a canvas from our selection, and we’ll include coordinating 1″ cotton webbing and thread. Each kit comes with a detailed set of printed instructions, chock-full of helpful step-by-step photos.

5. Tie-Up Tool Roll Kit
This Tie-Up Tool Roll was the small project for our Fall 2023 We Quilt This City quarterly subscription service. I love my tool roll so much, that we adapted my original patchwork design to have a continuous backing, and turned it into a kit! There are four fun fabric combinations to choose from.
The Tie-Up Tool Roll Kit includes all the fabric and notions you need to make a CUSTOMIZED tool roll. It was important to me during the design process to come up with a method that would easily accommodate all kinds of tools and items. In my YouTube tutorial, I show you how to make a tool roll that works for you.
If you or someone you know can never track down the tools you’re constantly using, this is the project for you. Click here to shop the Tool Roll Kit.
6. Wool Felting Kits
Last but not least, we carry a variety of adorable Woolpets felting kits! Recommended for ages 8 and up, each of these kits included detailed picture instructions, felting needles, and the necessary wool roving.
Check out our full selection of Woolpets kits here – if not to purchase, then simply to enjoy their cuteness! – and remember, needle felting requires a firm, foam pad to absorb the felting needle while working on the project (see below). Make sure to get one to go with your kit!
7. Christmas Time Table Runner Kit
This easy quilted table runner is festive AND useful. You can set hot dishes directly on it thanks to the insulated fleece included it’s make with. This kit comes with detailed photo instructions, and we have video tutorial on our YouTube Channel that will also help guide you through the process.
All set for the holidays!
There you have it! Seven, easy-to-make (or gift) kits for the holidays! Remember to make time for yourself amongst all the craziness. This season is meant to be enjoyed.
Happy Holidays and Happy Sewing!

I’m a bit confused. I clicked on the pictures for mittens and slippers but it only opened the image rather than taking me to a kit. I looked in the patterns and kits sections and didn’t see them either. Do I need to order the fabric based on the yardage? Maybe I’m just not clicking the right thing? LOL!
Hello Karen,
I’m sorry for the confusion! The pictures themselves are not linked in the blog (for some reason we’re unable to do that) but, in the text underneath each picture there are links to every kit. (If the name of the kit is bolded then it’s a clickable link, and there are also sentences in each section that say ‘click here’.)
To make it simple though, here are the direct links to both kits you were interested in :
